Hillcrest Elementary's Secret Garden

About the Secret Garden

During the summer of 2010, the old cement in our school's courtyard was torn out.  New cement was poured with places left open to have in-ground garden areas for planting and experimenting.  Soil was brought in soon after, and the planting of the garden began on August 27, 2010.  Students and teachers were encouraged to suggest names for the new garden.  The complete list of names was voted on by the staff of the building, and that process whittled the list down to three names.  The students of the school then had the opportunity to vote on their favorite name for the garden, and Secret Garden was the top choice! Now the garden is certified as a Monarch Waystation which means it has adequate plants to sustain the life of monarchs throughout their life cycle.
