 IPOD APPS from Jennifer Adams
- Notability - one I use almost every day. Turns your screen into an interactive whiteboard on which you can draw, type, highlight, add images, add audio, and much more. The more I use it, the more I like it.
- AppShopper - Apps tend to go on sale periodically, and taking a minute each day to check what apps are being offered for free has allowed me to get a ton of apps without paying a dime :)

CELLS
- iCell by Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotechnology - 3D depictions of plant, animal and bacterial cells
-
3D Cell Stain by Invitrogen - allows you to apply their organelle stains to a cell and see the resulting microscopic image. My kids loved this one
-
NDSU Virtual Cell - has videos and quizzes for electron transport chain and photosynthesis
-
Powers of Minus Ten - takes a minute to figure out how to navigate, but has great graphical depictions of cellular and sub cellular structures.
- XVIVX Interactive Book on cord blood stem cells. Amazing images and embedded video
-
HHMI has begun make apps for their videos and virtual labs.

GENETICS
- The Human Genome At Ten - special iPad edition of Nature magazine. Includes articles, images & embedded video
-
CF GeneE by Vertex Pharmaceuticals - CFTR gene function with different mutations and disease distribution maps.
A little over my students' heads, but they like it anyway
-
The World of Viruses by SEPA - a series of comic book like stories. I'm still not sure how I'll use them in class yet, but they're cool!

CHEMISTRY
- EMD Interactive Periodic Table
-
iHyperchem - molecule building tool
-
Molecules - you can search for complex bio molecules and it will bring up a rotatable structure

ENVIRONMENT
- Leaf Snap - awesome for looking at structures for a variety of plants, finding nearby species, and creating virtual collections.
-
Cachalot - information, videos and images of marine fauna from Duke University Marine Lab
-
Nature Conservancy Magazine - great stories and images
-
7 Billion - stunning population report by National Geographic. Embedded videos and images.
